Dear family,
It has been a
good week. Saturday we had the baptism of the sister that we helped get married
a few weeks ago. Her husband still isn't ready, but the problem is that he
works Sundays. He's is talking about changing to a job that doesn't make him
work Sundays, but we couldn't make his wife wait forever to get baptized. Now,
she'll be able to be an example to him and help him get ready.
This Friday we
should have the baptism for Lesly. Her extended family is so excited about this
baptism that they are taking care of everything--giving talks, performing the
ordinance, finding white clothing. I could get used to having this kind of
support and enthusiasm for all our baptisms. (But we actually got a lot of
support for our baptism this weekend. Our ward mission leader made sure we had
enough Priesthood holders there...something that has been a struggle for some
baptisms. This was one of my least-stressful baptisms.)
Now, we are
finding that we desperately need to find new people to teach. We have enough
people to visit that we aren't really bored, but the only ones who have been
progressing are now getting baptized. We have to find a way to help some of our
existing investigators start keeping commitments or find new people who
actually want to apply our message.
This is perhaps
the strangest December of my life. A few weeks ago when it got chilly, it
started to feel like Christmas might actually be coming, but now it's warm
again and I just can't quite believe it at night when I put December as the
date in my journal!
Tomorrow we are
going to start teaching an English class. I've never taught an English class
before, and I am not sure how it will work out with a class of people who are
at such different levels. But there were several people who thought having an
English class in the ward would be an important help for the missionary effort
in the ward, so we are giving it a try.
