Definitely the highlight of
this week was that I got to watch conference! And I got to watch it in English!
So nice to be able to understand easily and listen to the actual voices and the
emotion. Besides, how are you ever going to translate a talk by Elder Holland?
All of the North American missionaries gathered in the High Council room to
watch on a small TV.
We're finally starting to
have a few investigators. We managed to have three come to the Sunday Morning
session. We had committed a bunch of people to go. So Sunday morning we set out
to gather them. My comp was worried that they wouldn't all fit in the small bus
the ward had. I wasn't. On the off chance that they all came, I was going to be
soo happy that I would find a way to make them fit. Even though we went out to
gather some people, the three who did come came on their own and early! I'm
feeling really optimistic about these three. One of them, William, has had a
Book of Mormon for a few days and is now on chapter 11. What's more, before the
session started, he sat there reading more!
In other news, on Wednesday
we went on divisions with the Sister Training leaders. I went to the other area
and Sister Blanco and I had a Book of Mormon day. In each of our lessons we
taught about or reviewed the importance of the Book of Mormon, including when
we first contacted people. It's not the way to work every single day because
there are other things we need to teach, but it made for a really good day!
As a dietary sidenote, I am
eating a lot of rice these days. Rice seems to be a standard component of lunch
in Honduras, and perhaps especially in La Ceiba.
Well family, I love you lots
and lots. I hope you have a wonderful week!

Dear family,
It has been
quite the week. Can I just say that opening an area is a challenge? I've done a
lot of walking this week because we have to hunt for opportunities to teach.
On Thursday the
Elders in my zone had interviews with President Klein, but the Sisters instead
went to dinner with President and Sister Klein. Basically we crashed their
anniversary dinner. Very nice of them to share it with us!
Saturday night
we got to see the RS broadcast. I missed being able to hear President Monson's
voice because we watched it in Spanish. But it was still really good. We took
one of our neighbors, Gloria, with us. But the rest of the people we invited
didn't come. Sunday was the same story. We had invited everyone to church and
we had several people who had firmly committed to come. But no one came!
I know that
going out and looking is an important opportunity for us to grow as
missionaries and as a companionship, but sometimes I want a little more
direction on who to talk to and where to go.
I am really
super looking forward to General Conference next weekend. It is one of my
favorite weekends of the year! I believe that all the sessions will be
broadcast to our stake center, and I might even get to watch some of them in
English. We'll see.
I hope you have
a wonderful week!

Dear family,
So it's been a
crazy week. My most frequent adventure is getting lost. Better if it is really
hot and the sun is beating down. We're slowly getting more oriented. We're two
Elders and two Hermanas in our ward.
We still don't
have many investigators. We're trying to get to know the area, the members and
talk to as many people as we can. We have a few people who might evolve into
investigators, but as of yet nothing is very sure.
The Ceiba is
definitely more touristy that my previous areas. In the neighborhoods life is
pretty normal for Honduras. But when you go to the stores there is definitely
an American influence in the products. In our area there is an oversized
pulperia. (Somewhere between a pulperia and a very small grocery store.) It has
a little of everything, including (surprise) peanut butter.
The members
here are really great. And there are a lot of them who are willing to do what
they can to help the missionaries. Yesterday, after getting lost for over an hour,
we took a recent convert out to contact and teach with us. She is super
impressive. She spoke up and contributed to the lessons and what she added was
perfect (relevant and doctrinal, and it invited the Spirit). Such a pity that
she is only free Sundays! But there are others who are also disposed to go out
and accompany us.
As far as being
a trainer, I really have no idea what I am doing, but with all the missionaries
who are coming, everyone has to step up and do things they aren't ready to do
(open areas, train, etc.)
I hope you all
have a wonderful week!

Dear family,
Today is not
p-day, but we were allocated two hours this morning to write the mission
president and our families. But we didn't do that. We left our mission
boundaries and went to San Pedro. So I'm writing a quick email this evening. I
don't know whether I get to write a little more Wednesday or if this is it
until next Monday. I've mostly given up planning :)
Anyway, my
companion has been sick just about her whole time in Honduras (Five months!)
Sister Klein had us come to San Pedro to visit a doctor and run tests. We
visited the mission office first, and Sister Klein gave me and my comp
cupcakes. After a day in San Pedro, two visits to the doctor, a trip to do lab
work, and a trip to the pharmacy to buy a bunch of medicine, we think we have
what we need to get rid of the bacteria that has made my comp sick!
Other than
that, it's been business as usual. We have transfers on Wednesday, but I feel
like I just had transfers because it's only been four weeks.
I love you all
so very much. You are in my prayers always. Have a great week.
Love,
Hermana Davis
