19 May 2014

Hi family,
Wednesday, I got to go on divisions to La Mesa. It was a really special opportunity to go back to my first area. And to see so many people I had met and taught. I even had some nice surprises seeing how the area had grown. I found out that one young man I had started teaching finally got baptized after being an investigator for eight months. Wow! And it was really nice to see how many people still remember me. At least according to them I now speak Spanish much better than when I arrived. It was a neat experience to see some of the growth I've had since I first got here!
Friday we had multi-zone conference. My companion and I taught one of the break-out sessions. It was a workshop on learning English. The Latino missionaries are supposed to learn English just like we are supposed to constantly improve our Spanish. President Klein wanted to help the Latinos see how to use the resources they have and help the Nortes see how they can help their companion.

Saturday evening, there was a ward activity. This last week was family week in Honduras, or maybe in all of Central America. The church asked wards and stakes to have various activities and workshops throughout the week. I really liked the activity Saturday, because it brought the ward together with essentially no ''things.'' Ward member took turns telling riddles, jokes, poems, etc. There was a lot of laughing. There was a lot that was hard to understand too, because they were talking so fast, but the merriment was universal.
Today our zone went to the Olympic stadium. We rented it for a couple hours to play futbol. The sisters only played for a little bit, but we took lots of pictures :) After that, we went to Planeta for liquados. The liquados were Hna Lopez's desire for her last p-day. A little shopping, a little time to write, and then we start the whole week over again.
Have a wonderful week!

Hello family!
Happy Mother's day, Mom!  Mother's day is a big deal in Honduras. The schools have big events and invite the moms. Everyone plans special dinners and many make or buy cakes (which is reserved for birthdays and other special events). And everyone goes to visit their Mom. Except of course the missionaries only call. Sunday afternoon the chapel was full of people making skype calls to their missionaries who are serving elsewhere.
On Tuesday I got to go back to one of my old areas. La Paz, where I served for one transfer. I got to go back to the part where I served for only two weeks, but people still remember me :). And I got to see Marla and her mother-in-law, Caridad. That was really special for me.
On Saturday we helped the Relief Society make foam flowers. Hna Lopez taught the sisters how to make the flower. There was only one hot glue gun. But as my companion pointed out, the sisters talked more because they had to constantly ask for someone to pass the glue gun, scissors, or another sheet of foam.
Sunday the Primary children sang ''A Mi Madre,'' and I played the piano. I'd never heard the song before. I don't know whether that's because it's only in Spanish or because I need to spend more time in Primary. :)
I love you all so very much, and I hope you have a wonderful week!

5 May 2014

Wow! It does sound like you've had a wet week! Just so you know I'd just about forgotten that hot water exists. But I suppose it's also less necessary where I am since the weather is usually warm or hot. Sometimes very hot.
Our most interesting experiences this week are the ones that also have pictures.
Thursday morning we were finishing companionship study and just about ready to start weekly planning when one of the sisters who lives a couple houses down the street came to our door. She said that her companion wasn't doing well and asked us to come. Her comp, who had stayed home sick the day before still wasn't doing well. In the end, after consulting with Hna Klein, we asked the Bishop and his wife to take us to the hospital. Thus, I was once again in the hospital in the Lima, but this time as moral support and not as a patient. One of the doctors even recognized me. But he was happy to know that I was just there visiting. :)
The ward in El Porvenir is growing a garden behind the chapel. Saturday we went to help the Relief Society plant bell peppers (chile dulce). They are already growing platano, guayaba (guava), tomato, pepino (cucumber), and other things that I can't remember. We brought one of our investigators. She has a lot of plants in her house, so we thought that she might like the garden. And she did. She got right to work with us. Hopefully one day soon, she'll want to come to church with us and experience Sunday in the chapel.
This week we are going to try having a music class. We might teach how to direct music, or we might try to start a ward choir. It depends on how many people come and interest level. I've never tried to do a music class as a missionary. I hope it turns out to be a worthwhile experiment.

We continue to try to work with our current investigators, but we are also trying to contact as many people as we can in the hopes that we can find people, or maybe even a family, that is ready to embrace the gospel.
I hope you have a wonderful week. I love you all. Have a wonderful Mother's day.
Love,
Hermana Davis
