Hi family!
We are starting to see signs
that the people we have been teaching and contacting are now progressing, which
obviously makes it hard for me to leave this transfer, but it seems that I'll
be leaving here. Sad! But I know there will be good people wherever it is that
I go.
Monday, our golden family
officially ditched us. They didn't come to the family home evening we set up
with a member family. Even though this new family technically lives in ward
boundaries, the distance is prohibitive for both us and them. We hope, though,
that we planted some seeds that will help them accept the gospel when the work
moves forward to put a branch and missionaries closer to them (or if they
should happen to move again). But don't worry, we've seen good progress with
many of the other people we've been teaching.
Tuesday and Wednesday I went
on divisions, back to two of my old areas and companions. On Tuesday, I went
back to La Paz with Hna Ramos, who was my companion in Ceiba. Then on
Wednesday, I went back to La Mesa, with Hna Rodriguez! Hna Rodriguez is a
member of barrio La Mesa, but she has been called to serve a short, but
full-time, mission to fill in the gap for a sister who went home for health
problems. Sister Rodriguez is amazing. She was a brand new convert when I got
to the Mesa, but now she's gone to the temple and is serving as a missionary.
She was even so dedicated to her goal of going to the temple that when she
found out the temple in Tegucigalpa was going to be closed the date she had
hoped to go to the temple, she made plans to go to Guatemala, rather than
delaying her temple trip for a few weeks!
From Thursday on, it was good
to be back in my area. On Sunday, one of our investigators surprised us by
going to church. We had gone to bring Dariela (high-school age) and her cousin
Julisa who had said they would come to church. When we got there, they came
out, and so did the mom, who said she had woken up that morning with a desire
to go to church. That's okay with me :).
In the evening with set
baptismal dates in our last two appointments. One with Misael (youth, late
teens), who will get baptized in just under two weeks, and the other with Juan
Carlos (young adult), who will work toward getting baptized at the beginning of
August. I think the Spirit helped us know how to invite him. He is a very good
investigator, he listens, understands, and prays. Juan Carlos has had previous
contact with the church--he knows members, he's been to church a couple of
times in the past, and he has even met with missionaries before. He shared with
us that prior to starting to meet with us he had already received an answer
that The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints is the true church. As we
got to the end of the lesson, I started hearing in my mind the music from the
Hill Cumorah Pageant from the scene at the waters of Mormon where Alma invites
the people to be baptized. We shared the scripture (Mosiah 18:8-10). Then we
invited him to take the step he basically already knew he needed to take. I am
really proud of him for accepting. His family doesn't support him at all, and
he will face some pressure about this decision, but he is willing to move
forward!
That's more or less what we
have been up to this week. While I am here, I get to watch church history in
the making. All of the blessings and challenges of a new church where most of
the members are first or maybe second generation members.
I love you all so much. You
are all in my prayers.
Talk to you next week!
Love,
Sister Davis
