Dear Family,
I'm not feeling
very long-winded this week, so I hope you like the mountain of pictures I sent.
Things I've
learned about oatmeal this week. 1. When you are making just-add-water
pancakes, you can mix in some oatmeal to vary the texture and add a little bit
of whole grain. 2. When you don't have anything else to put in your oatmeal,
that strawberry jam in the back of the fridge is a surprisingly good way to
make strawberry oatmeal.
Also note that
next week is changes, so I believe I'll write on Wednesday. (If I get
transferred to somewhere far away, I'll lose most of the day traveling and
might not write till Thursday.) It's kind of crazy to think that one week from
today I'll find out whether I'll be transferred and then I won't know who my
comp is until Wed morning and then suddenly everything will change. Mission
life is crazy! I like warning, not sudden changes, but I don't seem to get much
say in the matter.
Saturday we had
a baptism for one lady we've been teaching and her nine-year-old son. After the
actual baptism, they both had a chance to share testimonies. It was really
sweet to watch the son get up there, start crying and say how happy he
was.
On Friday, I
learned a new way to contact people: Ask them to give you stuff. My comp and I
were walking to the chapel for a Relief Society activity where we were going to
have some investigators. As we were walking, we passed a house that had a palo
de guayaba (guava tree). All of a sudden, my comp turned around and asked the
Señor who was in the yard if he would give her some guavas. He said of course,
and proceeded to pick several guavas for each of us. Then he said that he also
had a mango in his fridge and offered it to us. It's amazing how generous
people are! While he was picking the guavas, we started talking to him. Before
we left, we had given him a Plan of Salvation pamphlet and a Book of Mormon.
Yesterday, the
missionaries in my zone participated in a future missionaries activity that one
of the wards had. My district shared some about what we did to prep for a
mission. The other district talked about mission life. At the end we took
pictures with the future missionaries in groups based on the year they could
leave. I sent the pictures of the missionaries who will be leaving this year,
and one of missionaries who have to wait a good long time, but there are others
in between. It was really fun to be there and feel the energy that that ward
has for missionary work.
Thoughts for
the week: I really love Elder Holland's talk, Good Things to Come and the
Mormon Message video of it. Watch it!
