Dear Family,
I am officially in the East
mission. So you can go ahead with making my plaque. I leave it to your discretion
which picture you want to use. If one of the ones with my missionary tag turned
out, you could use that. I think we had some nice ones with me in a pink
sweater, but sweltering in the heat down here, the idea of my missionary
picture being in a sweater seems silly. Also, I'll go with Mosiah 3:19 (the
time will come when a knowledge of a Savior will spread).
We had our changes meeting
today. My companion, Hna Nuñez, got transferred to another area in the East
mission, and I am staying in my same area. It's kind of daunting to be the
companion who has to know who everyone is and where everything is and teach it
to a new companion! Thus far in our few hours together, we haven't gotten lost,
but the real test comes this evening when we go out to introduce her to the
bishop, investigators, etc. and hopefully teach some.
Last week we had a kind of
exciting experience. One night, when we got home the lock on our door didn't
work. Try as we might with the key, it wouldn't open. The mechanism was broken.
We enlisted the help of one the members in the ward and eventually the bishop,
but we couldn't get in. So we crashed for the night in the members' home. The
next morning we had to call someone to come fix our door. That night I was
grateful that we had members close by and that I wound up with a place to sleep
and even a toothbrush!
The day after the door
adventure we went on divisions with the Hermana leaders. It was kind of neat to
realize that I could actually lead out a little in teaching, since the Hermana
with me didn't know the area or the people. Then in the evening, we had the
baptism of Angel, our 16-year-old investigator who has been super eager to
listen to and accept the gospel. As soon as he got permission from his mom, he
was practically in the baptismal font waiting for us.
I really loved the broadcast
on Sunday. We went to the stake center, all the full time missionaries, and
members of ward and stake councils. We watched the broadcast in Spanish, which
means that I understood most, but not all. I missed hearing the actual voices,
which made me grateful that I've grown up hearing the voice of the prophet. Up
to this point, my mission is not using Facebook or really computers. I don't
think we're going to be one of the first people to use technology. Many people
here have access to computers, but many don't.
Today in the change meeting
Pres Veirs talked a little about all the changes in the mission. He said that
we weren't using Facebook yet, but the way he said it, the day is maybe closer
than I think. He also talked about how fast the mission will grow in the coming
months and about how everyone needs to be preparing for leadership
responsibilities. My trainer told me that in one or two more transfers I could
easily be training. That prospect makes me incredibly nervous! I still lack a
lot in being able to have normal conversations. I guess I'd better work and
pray really hard in the coming weeks.
Well, I think that's all. The
computer isn't working well with pictures, so hopefully I will send some next
week.
Love, Hermana Davis
